Born in Vernon, British Columbia; Shannon Scanlan has always chosen visual art for her primary creative outlet.

After graduating from high school in 2001, Scanlan moved to Victoria British Columbia to complete her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Art at the University of Victoria. Here, she first discovered a passion for installation and made work that was in dialogue with the West Coast Light and Space Movement of the 1960’s and 70’s among other things.

Scanlan graduated with Honours and Distinction in 2005 and she moved to various locations in the United Kingdom to work, travel and see art before coming back to B.C. to make new work in 2007.

In 2011, Scanlan moved to Toronto to take her Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts at York University. She graduated in 2013 with her thesis exhibition, Pink Room, an exhibition that marked a major shift in her practice towards sumptuous, biomorphic spaces.

Recently Scanlan has been focusing on some two-dimensional embroidery and drawing.

Scanlan has exhibited in Victoria, Toronto, Windsor and Montreal.
